Vote May 3rd

I'm pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen. In my three terms on the Board, I’ve enjoyed serving all residents of Shrewsbury and it would be a privilege to continue to work in partnership with this wonderful community to ensure that Shrewsbury remains a safe, pleasant place to live.

Using my experience and knowledge of budgets, I’ll work to ensure the Town can provide quality services while maintaining financial stability.  I’ll support feasible, sustainable options to provide the core services of public safety, education, and infrastructure as well as supporting the Senior Center, library and other services that are so important to our quality of life.

I’ve worked hard to be an effective member of the Board, serving on the Library Building Committee and spearheading the creation of fiscal policies and strategic outcomes to set budget priorities. I championed the creation of the “Citizen’s Guide to the Budget” and I’ll continue to seek ways to improve public participation and keep residents informed.

I am seeking a fourth term to deliver on the following priorities:

  • Town Manager.  Use my extensive Human Resources and municipal government experience to help recruit the next Town Manager when the current manager retires in 2018. Hiring the "right person" will require carefully considering where our community is going and what is needed in the short- and long-term to ensure financial stability while encouraging economic growth.

  • Expand the Commercial Tax Base.  Continue to support projects to position Shrewsbury favorably for business development such as the Lakeway Business District, the former SPAG’s properties on Route 9, reuse of the Glavin Center property, and infrastructure improvements to encourage development efforts at CenTech North and East.

  • Land Use.  We must be mindful to balance economic growth with the need to protect land designated for recreation and open space. I’ll encourage initiatives to preserve our natural resources and prevent unwanted development, such as re-zoning initiatives that resulted in preventing unwanted residential development at the Glavin Center and U.S. Postal Service properties and preservation of soccer fields at the Glavin property.

  • Mandated Regulations.  Continue to fight underfunded state and federal mandates that jeopardize our ability to deliver quality education, safety and infrastructure services

Your contribution will help raise the funds needed to launch my campaign and purchase the necessary signs, mailings, and advertising.  As the campaign progresses, I’ll also need lots of help placing signs, writing endorsements, and spreading the word.

Thank you in advance for your encouragement and your support.
